Because of my limited budget($1000 new monitor incl) ive decided that ill try to use as much parts as possible from my old(homebuilt by my brother) pc.

these are the parts that im planning to reuse:

case:

with this fan:

psu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371035

the old hdd and dvd player, but ill probably add a ssd later

these are the new parts i want to add:

motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813130646

cpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819116505

ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820233300

gpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130787

Now my questions are:
-will everything work together?
-is the old psu good enough?
-is the graphics card worth the $400?

I'd say yes to all of your questions.
Everything is compatible.
The Antec EarthWatts has the juice to run it all.
And the GTX 670 is one of the best single chip GPUs available.

No, that 500w PSU isn't enough to run everything. It may have 44amps on the 12v but you'll find you will start getting crashes as that FTW card takes more juice than a regular card. If you slap that machine with a taxing game like BF3 I'm pretty positive lack of power will start giving you problems.

guru3d says 550W, but that is with an OC'd i7 965.
You think the FTW version would require the power difference between an OC'd 965 and a stock i5 3550?

Yes. It has a clock speed of over 1ghz and that Gigabyte isn't. IB CPU's stock can take between 75 and 95w of power there. At 500w and 80% Bronze that is cutting it mighty close.

Its too close in my mind to answer it a yes or no.... It should run.... As usually the over state the requires.

Hexus.net says it adds 228W at full load to a 2500k system @3.3Ghz

Oh it'll run, no doubt about that. Probably for a while even. How long till it gets hot enough to go zing is the question and that is why I always try to recommend at least 50-100w over what the card recommended is.

Thats what I meant too. The quality is there in the Antec that I think that theres a good chance that it'll run forever, or it might rub for 3 weeks.
