Default My first rig! (pics included)

First off I'd like to start out by saying a big thanks to everyone here for helping me to pick out the components for my new rig. So thank you for all your help in that regard!

Ok, let's get to the nitty-gritty.

Spec:

Case | Cooler Master HAF932

Mobo | ASUS Rampage II Extreme
CPU | Intel Core i7 920
GFX card | ASUS Radeon EAH5870 V2
Memory | 6GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 1600

CPU Cooler | Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
PSU | Corsair TX750
HDD | Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB

OS | Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Monitor | Acer x203h
Speakers | Logitech M/N s 0264b
Mouse | Logitech RX1000
Keyboard | The crappy one from my old Dell!

Total cost: ~1800 euro

Everything in my rig is currently running at stock speeds.

Onto the Pics!

Performance:

So overall, I'm really happy with it. It runs every single game I've played on it so far at very high settings without a hitch: C&C3, Portal, CoD4, Racedriver GRID, Medieval 2 TW etc. All at VERY high FPS at 1600x900. It dominates these games. And remember, this is without overclocking anything.

Now, my original plan was to be able to play Crysis at Very High, 8x AA at max resolution without lag. So does it do it? Overall, yes, the game is very playable and enjoyable. There are only two points in the game's story where the FPS drop to the low 20s. And that's only if you're standing in a certain position and looking in a certain direction. Other than that, I usually get between 35 and 45 FPS which is great. Max FPS I've seen so far is around 65.

I'm really anxious to see how overclocking will affect these figures.

Waiting for DIRT 2 to arrive in the mail to see how it handles. And by the looks of what I've seen of the 5870 on Youtube, it should dominate the game.

Future plans for my rig:

- Lap my i7 920 and my TRUE120. Gonna be doing this as soon as my sandpaper and rubbing alcohol arrives. Ebay FTW!
- Overclock my i7 920 to 4GHz.
- Overclock my RAM.
- Buy another 5870 and run both in crossfire.
- Spray paint the inside of my case matte black to make it look sexier!
- Oh yeah, and buy a new keyboard.
- Possibly buy some kind of liquid cooling system. Not sure if I'll do this though.

So anyway, what do you guys think of my rig?!

Spin the Thermalright Ultra-120 Xtreme 90 degrees. Also, where is the heatsink fan? It's not a good idea to run the computer without a fan.

Why spin it 90 degrees?

Don't have a heatsink fan. Didn't know I needed one. Thought the 120 would be enough...

Was going to say....how's the temps with passive cooling like that? I'd be crazy paranoid with no fan on the heatsink.

Do you see the case exhaust fan right beside it. The heatsink works best pointing at it.

You need to buy a 120mm fan for it. Something like this should work.
Newegg.com - Rosewill RFX-120 120mm Case Fan

Looks crazy awesome! Like everyone else mentioned, get a fan on that heatsink! And turn it. You well get MUCH better temps, I promise you.

Looks fantastic dude.

He's right you need to turn it and put a fan blowing towards the exhaust you will see an amazing drop in temps. Right now that heat is barely getting dissipated and the heat that is is lurking around inside the case.

Here is a pic of the setup Slay is reccomending with a single 120. For better cooling you can go for 2 120mm fans in a push/pull setup.

The fan is set to push air through the heatsink then exausting out of the back via the case 120 fan.
