4600 is the same cache as a 4200.. and 3800.. so you are mistaken.. the only ones with higher cache are 4000, 4400 and 4800.. so if you are getting anything.. get the 4400 seeing as 4000 is only on am2 platform

ok too lazy to read all the blabla that has been going on here,

Heres some things you should know:

A. You're memory is perhaps PC2 6400 which is DDR800 but the timings are horrible, 5-5-5-12?? why? get 4-4-3-10 [Mushkin eXtreme Performance PC2-6400, aka Mushkin XP2-6400]

B. If you are getting DDR800 over DDR 667/676 then get either the X2 3800 [if you are going to overclock] OR the X2 4600, DEFINANTLY NOT TO GET: X2 4200, 4400, 5000! Why? Cus I said so, lol. naw, because the multiplier on those models just doesnt work good with DDR 800.

C. I'm sure there was a C...

Basically, i can get the 4600+, 2 gigs of ram, and the video card without having to take anything away. I think i will probably stick with the 4600+ because there isn't much of a price difference. However, i have a question about the ram. The reason i'm using AM2 is because people are saying that it's a much newer thing than the 939 socket. Anyways, i'm not sure about the DDR 2 ram. There are 3 types of choices, and i'm assuming that the one with 800mhz is the best type. If i'm wrong then tell me which is the best. Right now, i will look for the timing that you told me to look for. It'll probably be PC 6400 Dual Channel 1x2gigs.

I only have 3 choices for the AM2 CPU. It's the 3800+, 4200+, and 4600+. There isn't even a 100 dollar price difference between the 4600+ and 3800+ and as a result, it doesn't really give me enough money to upgrade to a video card that will make a huge difference.

I can get the 4600+, 2 gigs of ram, and the video card without having to remove anything. I would have to take the 4200+ and a gig of ram if i wanted to get a better video card. However, since people are saying the video card is fine, i will most likely stick with what i have up there. I'm just looking for which ram i should get.

alright, in the future please don't quadruple post like that lol. About the processor issue, I agree with you, there's not much of a price difference so go with the 4600. Did you include money to buy parts such as a monitor, OS, keyboard, etc?

if this plan works for you follow it

Get the X2 3800, a DFI Infinity NF UltraII-M2, 2 gigs of RAM [either what I bought, the Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4, or if you can affored it, the Mushkin XP2-6400], and either a eVGA GForce 7900GT or an X1900XT.

This is probably going to work out the best for you.........thats exactly what I bought [tho I went for an X1900XT]

I'm planning to use all that stuff from my previous computer just to save a little bit of money.
