Alright, so I'm planing on making a build to get me back into the PC gaming scene. I've been reading up on parts and how everything works and I think I'm starting to understand it all. As of now I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers bought. Next I plan on getting the case and everything that goes in it off ncix.com (I'm Canadian btw). I'm not getting a sound card yet though, I'm going to get that at another time.

This is what I plan to do with this PC:
Play modern and future games
Listen to music
General web surfing and messaging
Recording music
Some light photoshop work etc

Now I was planing on going all out with an E6600 and a 8800gtx and all but I just spend a load of cash on a PS3, a Wii, and games for both. Because of this I'm going to try and cut corners while still having a system that can do what I want.

This is my planed build. I went with an E6300 but I'm still not sure on that, I might go for E6400 but I don't want to spend all my cash on the E6600.

I'm don't plan on getting a PSU just yet because I hope the one that comes with the case is good enough for now. The video card I have picked out suggests at least 450watts and that's what the in-case PSU is, so it makes me think I should get a 500-550watt PSU.

I went for a cheaper video card because I plan on going all out when DX10 cards become more mainstream next year. I don't want to spend too much on something I play to replace soon.

Anyway, here it is, opinions? (these prices are Canadian)

A good system if you dont plan on OC. The thing is the C2D are MONSTER OC'rs. Im almost possitive in remembering the value select cant be OC'd that much or something. And that that Asus board doesnt OC that well either. As for the vic card its good for its price i think. I think i remember Nvidia having a card around that price that was better but I didint think by much. Hrmm now i have to go see

The ASUS P5B is an ok-ish overclocker, nothing special. The P5B-E and P5B-Deluxe/WiFi-AP though, are monster overclockers. And yeah, ValueSelect doesn't overclock at all.

I guess the main question is, should I actually go for a more powerful PSU? I'll get a much stronger PSU when I drop a DX10 card in obviously, but should my PC be fine with that 450watter? I'd rather not spend more then I need to but I'd like to know if running that system with the in-case PSU is safe.

Also, I haven't built anything in my life and I don't understand the innings on a computer yet, but from what I've read and seen around I'm a AMD and Nvidia fan boy. It seems like core2duo is the clear cut choice right now though, but if you could suggest some Nvidia cards in that range it would be nice.

And I don't plan on doing much overclocking. I don't know much about it but the idea seems to scare me a bit.

Im not to good about wattage ask Trieclipse bout that lol but im pretty sure a 450w Antec PSU will be good enough. Then again I dont know since i think ATI cards use more wattage. BUT C2D use alot less now so lol dunno. Never was good at calculating watage

BTW an AMD and Nvidia fanboy haha thats an odd one, but lets see let me check and see. Would you mind spening maybe 20-25 more on a better Nvidia card?

Or you can spend about 20 less for the 7900GS which is a bit less powerful than the X1900PRO, but if you upgrade in the next 6 months or so and dont play on anything higher than 1240 It should suffice your need.

Lol one more edit: If you OC'd a 7900GS which have excellent stock coolers it can beat a 7900GT pretty easily from what I hear which is about 230.

Don't get the PSU that comes with the case, never a good idea. They just toss a lame PSU in there that's likely to fry your components within the month. I've had personal experience with bad case PSUs, and not one of them is good. You need to get an aftermarket.

Might I suggest this one?

That is a good PSU, Rosewil make good PSU that look and perform awesome. Also if you take my suggestion on the 7900GS then you shouldnt have to spend much more than what you originally planned.

Forton :D. My favorite. A bit pricey, but if you can afford it, that's a **** rock solid PSU right there.
