I am looking to build my own pc to be used primarily for music production with programs such as protools. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any builds or barebone kits?

I am thinking about the following barebone kit Intel DX58SO Ultra Barebones Kit - Intel DX58SO LGA 1366 Mobo, Intel Core i7 920 CPU, OCZ 6GB DDR3 RAM, Hitachi Deskstar 1TB Internal HD, NZXT Tempest ATX Mid-Tower Case, Ultra LSP750 750W PSU at TigerDirect.com

Here's another one to consider. A little less powerful, but music doesn't require an i7.

Intel Core i5-650 Clarkdale 3.2GHz LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I5650
&
ASUS P7H55-M/CSM LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
&
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
&
COOLER MASTER Elite 310 RC-310-BKR2-GP Black with blue front panel Steel Body / ABS plastic front bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 420W Power Supply
&
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

$479

Newegg.com - XFX HD-545X-ZNF2 Radeon HD 5450 1GB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card
$60 (no onboard graphics on the mobo)

Thank you, that looks like a solid set-up for the price. Would it work for occasional gaming?

The 5450 isn't really a gaming card; you'd want something better if you wanted to do some gaming on it. What games do you have in mind, what resolution would you be playing at, and what settings do you want to play those games at?

I would go with at least a 5670 to game:
Newegg.com - XFX HD-567X-YNFC Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity

2x4GB DDR3 1600 - 2x2GB DDR3 1600
Win10 Ent 64-bit - Mionix Naos 7000 Mouse - CM Storm QuickFire Rapid Mech Keyboard
