Mounting CPU and Heat sink

Do I latch in the cpu to the motherboard first before I apply the thermal past and mount the zalman 9500 heat sink?

You place the CPU in, then thermal paste then heatsink.

Be very careful, make sure your aligning the pins up correctly on the CPU and Socket, if you don't and try to lock it, youll damage the CPU and Socket.

I believe the my motherboard has a cpu latch, do I latch the cpu in right after I place it in the socket. Then add the thermal paste.

There should be a small bar, that you pull out gently and then lift up, it should move the whole socket a few MM. after the Bar is up, you align the pins on the CPU, drop it in, then push the bar down then it should lock into place.

Now with intels Ive seen it where theres a latch go over the top, that should latch down over the whole CPU after its been secured. After everything is locked and secured you apply the paste then the heat sink.
