Question Motherboards: P35 VS P45

So I always had this question, and never knew the difference.

When do you really need a p45 as to a p35?

I have a p35 that can do crossfire, and everything a p45 can do, so whats the real advatage of the p45, and when do you really need it?

Also what does the extra "E" stands for?

the e as in EP? that just means energy saving....

P45 has a faster Crossfire Bandwidth though and better overclocking capablity in terms of FSB

So I guess only overclocking and crossfire is the only advantage?

o.O only? i guess that would be my main reason for buying a motherboard ^_^ if you don't care about overclocking, or crossfire performance, most any cheap board would do as long as it has all the connections you need.

well my motherboard has Crossfire support, and can overclock quite well....

So i assume an 45 is not in my horizon then. (Well as long as I can still get EP35-DS3P for 70 bucks each xD)

  • P45 chipset is made on a 65nm process as opposed to the 90nm process of the P35, so runs cooler and overclocks better in general with far less voltage
  • P45 has PCI-E 2.0 which has twice the bandwidth and can supply twice the current compared to PCI-E 1.1
  • For crossfire P45 splits lanes into 8x/8x instead of the rather odd 16x/4x of the P35
  • P45 can support 8gb kits (2x4gb kits)
  • P45 overclocks much better with all 4 dimms populated
  • P45 overclocks quads better
  • P45 boards look cooler
