Post Mother board sockets

what are the mother board socket numbers and letters mean. any help would be appreaciated

Socket 7 - Original Pentiums, Cyrix 686, Cyrix MII, AMD K6, AMD K6-2 and K6-III

Socket 370 - Intel Celeron, Intel PIII (not Cartridge), Cyrix III

Slot 1 - Intel PII, Intel PIII (cartridge only)

Slot A - AMD Athlon (Cartridge only)

Socket A - AMD Athlon Thunderbird (not Cartridge), AMD Duron, AMD Athlon XP

Socket 423 - Intel P4

Socket 478 - Intel P4 (2nd Gen)

754-Pin Socket - AMD Athlon 64

939-Pin Socket - AMD Athlon 64-fx

940-Pin Socket - AMD Athlon 64-fx

I'm not an expert when it comes to picking out hardware... but I'm sure the other members of tf will have suggestions...

I'm pretty sure dfi, and msi make good motherboards... I, personlly, would suggest Nvidia over ati...

whats your budget?
