u could build a pre-penryn system, and then upgrade it later:

intel dual-core 2 series (get the cheapest one and upgrade later)
gigabyte p35-ds3r
8800gts 320mb (then upgrade to 9 series, or get an x1950xt and save some cash and then upgrade to 9 series)
g-skill HZ 2gb KIT
corsair 520

And even that is a little generous.

are you kidding? the Radeon 9800 pro was once the top end of graphics cards. Before the X800 came out, People were buying it because they wanted to play the upcoming HL2.

Yeah, I agree my statement was a little over the top, but there has to be something said for hyperbole. Sure, that card will work fine with that monitor, but I doubt it will be able to play many (if any) games at native.

Anyways, whats with these people suggesting "cheap" core 2 duo hold-me-over systems? If you have the money to build one of those - with an 8800 no less - then I'd really like to be your friend.
