is the 27' really worth getting, or should i just settle and get the 24'?

Its personal preference really. I would say if its less than 3 feet from you than get the 24 but if you like bigger and better and you have then means you might as well go 27.

a 27' is a massive monitor... a 27" on the other hand is a little more understandable

it really is your preference and how big your budget is. dont skimp on quality for size, get a good monitor with high resolution and contrast and a fast refresh rate, if you can get all that and still get a 27" monitor then go for it, other wise, bring it back and get a good quality name brand top of the line 24" monitor, youll be glad you didnt settle with size over quality.
