To Ulater's original question, the Merom is the Conroe for Laptops. The Core Duo processors (Yonah) are great and stuff, and match AMD's clock-for-clock performance, but they lack 64-bit support. The Core 2 Duo (Merom) processors, aside from other advantages, increase the clock-for-clock performance to Conroe's (which is much higher than AMD's) and adds 64-bit support. The Merom processors are drop-in compatible with Yonah, so if you bought a Core Solo/Duo laptop, you can disassemble it and just plop in a Core 2 Duo Merom.
