my motherboard. nvidia socket am2 matx had 2 512 gb sticks and 2 1gb sticks in it that are ddr2. can i use ddr3 or is that for specific motherboards only?

well the weird thing is, ddr had a 184-pin dimm while ddr2 had a 240-pin dimm but ddr3 still uses the 240-pin slot. so i think you might be able to fit ddr3 into the motherboard but of course it wont work. unless the little notches on the ddr3 ram itself have changed from the ddr2 ones, in which case the ram wont fit.

There are a few boards that support DDR2 and DDR3, kind of buggy though

but you can't use DDR3 on any AM2 Boards out right now.. (thats where AM3 will come in)
