Memory issue?

Built a new rig yesterday --> no post beep/video at boot up, took out the ram, restarted the computer, got a post beep (1 long, 3 short = no memory detected) and no video. Please confirm that I need to buy new Ram sticks. Thanks.

reseat your video card. and clear the CMOS. make sure everything is plugged in properly.
actually, re-seat everything.

Yeah I already reseated everything quite a few times, I dont think thats the issue.

try booting with one ram stick at a time, if you have more than one.

Ok here's what I've done so far.

- Tried booting without the mobo being in the case
- tried both sticks of ram separately
- reseated the cpu once
- reseated the ram about 4 times
- reseated video about 4 times

When I have video, ram, and cpu plugged in, I have a black screen and no post with the monitor staying in sleep mode. When I took out the ram, the motherboard started beeping, which I'm guessing means that the motherboard is not fried

hmm, maybe its not the ram as well, took out the video card and inserted the ram and it gave me a no vga signal. Then when had everything in together again, no beeping , no video

do you have another graphics card you can try?

K , just went down to the computer store and used their parts...... my 4870 came DOA

that sucks. what brand was it? 512mb or 1gb? where did you buy it?
