i don't think you have to worry about power consumption.

In my dealings with gfx cards, i've owned a 8800gt 256 and a 3850 256mb. The 8800gt can play cod4 at almost maxed settings 1440x900 with 60fps ish. the 3850 wouldn't come close to that on stock clocks, but the thing is it oc'd like a beast for me. So moral of the story is, if you wanna OC then you could save a bit of money.

Otherwise, I would go with the 9600gt hands down.

Watts wise I'm not concerned, but Amps wise I am. I just checked my PSU and it only has an amazing...18amps -_-. yes it's an old system.

So looks like I'm getting a PSU too.

and I guessed the 8800GT 256MB would be better than the 3850 256MB, but it doesn't fair so well to the 512MB, as the 256MB on the 8800GT chokes it.

Seems at this point I'm going to be getting whichever is cheaper between the 3850 and the 8800GS. Or if I find a killer deal with the 9600GT.

the 8800GT 256 at this point is still faster than the 9600GT 512 in most games. the 8800GT 256 will whoop on the HD3850 256 or 512 version.

The 8800GS is still a good choice as well becuase it has a nice size memory.

actually from the benchmark results I posted before (post 10). the 9600GT and 3850 handle the 8800GT 256MB quite well. In Elder scrolls the 8800GT pulls ahead without AA&AF, but when the AA&AF are turned on the 256MB chokes and dies, while the 3850 is still standing.

I've pretty much ruled out the 8800GT 256MB, only way I'd go with it was if I was going SLI as then it takes care of the bottleneck.

8800GS seems to be a bit better than the 3850, however I'm heavily leaning towards the 9600GT.

as you should be heavily leaning towards the 9600GT as it's a beast of a card for the money.

I'm really tempted to jump on this power supply. It seems to have all the right juice to power my new comp.

Newegg.com - Antec BP550 Plus 550W ATX12V V2.2 Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CE, TUV, CB, FCC, CCC, C-TICK - Power Supplies

seems too good to be true though 60+ amps for $65 (tax). Thoughts?

I didn't read the second page but the 8800gs is still a good choice and will perform well.
