Default Looking for utility to securely format hard drives

looking for a utility that will securely format a hard drive so that data is NOT recoverable. any recomendations? freewares are welcome

Fire, you can burn it and buy a new one.

Anyone reason why someone would want to be certain everything is deleted is because they are "scared" Fbi will look for your files or something. but they wont unless they suspect you have something I dont want to say because I might get in trouble.

So fire and buying a new one, is the most secure way.

Even formated my screwed up virus riddled 40gig drive.

nah...i just want to get rid of my old hard drives on ebay. just want to make sure that data aren't recoverable. besides who would want to burn a $180 hard drive.

you never said you were going to sell them.

I'd just format with any operating system. Vista works fast.

Even if you completely format it, if they really try, they can prob find info, so dont try too hard.
