Looking at new moniters

Okay, heres my question Mr. Guru. I understand what contrast ratio is and how it effects images, but what does it mean by 1000:1("DC3000:1")? The DC term is new to me.

DC in contrast ratio is Dynamic Contrast Ratio. It supposedly helps in dark images and videos.

That would make alot of sense. Older LCD's are plagued by "blackouts" where areas of darker colors will just show up as black.
