Default LCD ignorant

I know almost nothing about LCD monitors. I'm going to give you all a $180 budget. Size is not a concern. I don't care how big it is. I'm going to use it for gaming. I don't know which brands to go for, which to avoid. Keep the response time at 16ms or less. If there is a big jump in quality to a $200 monitor, bring it to my attention, but still post the cheaper ones that might be contenders. Thanks for your all's help.

Look at Samsung, Viewsonic, and BenQ.

If your worried about spending alot on an LCD, get a good CRT.

I have a CRT. The idea is to switch to LCD for space purposes.

Oh.

Basiclly, look for a 17in(smaller pixel=better quality) and around an 8ms or so response time.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824014100

or this: (I have never heard of this company, so I dont know how much quality is there...)

This isn't a bad one...

But the one posted above looks like a nicer monitor....just judging from aesthetics....never heard of that company either.

How's this? I'd rather see my monitor run at 1024x768

looks fine. BenQ is a great company too.

Only thing is that 15'' is too small for me...but size is personal preference.

really? Good to know. I was skeptical with them. Newegg started carrying them not too long ago (a few months) and they all had no reveiws. I'll keep those in the running too.

Budget of $180 as in the monitor itself can be $180, or $180 as in that's the grand total? Because once you add in tax and shipping ($10 for most LCD's from Newegg), you're over $200.

Anyway, here's an Acer; they're usually good. 17", 6ms response time, decent brightness and okay contrast ratio. No DVI.

I think spending $180 on an LCD is a bit wasteful, though. You might be disappointed with what you get. With LCD's, it's all or nothing, IMO. That being said, I've got one of these coming :
