The reason that 24" monitors jump in price is because of the better technology behind them. They look a lot better and also support higher resolution than 22". I was at microcenter the other day checking out the acer 24" and my god, its gorgeous. You pick up the acer 24" for around 439 shipped if you look around. IMO its worth the extra money. It's what im going to pick up once i have paid off the machine i just built.
