will laptops change to dual core because im thinking of buying a laptop for christmas

Yes. Next month the Intel Yonah core comes out, which is dual core for laptops

how do they manage that without eating up alot of battery juice? i remember reading articles about laptops cpu's like a P4 cpu killing your battery.

It's based on the Pentium M, which doesn't suck power like the p4.
