My Dad has an HP Pavilion zv6000, $100 worth of which is mine. It has an AMD Athlon 64 DTR 939 3200+ and 2x256MB DDR333 SODIMM 200. This isn't nearly enough to fulfill what he needs to do and occasionally, when I do game on it, I get fed up with how slow sometimes it closes out of the game.

I'm going to do the following upgrades.
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ --> AMD Opteron 148 San Diego 939 or 150
2 x 256 SODIMM DDR333 --> 2x1GB DDR400 OCZ SODIMM DDR400

If the bios supports it then I may very well get a dual core Opteron. As far as battery life goes, I may go for a 12-cell battery to compensate. As far as heat goes, the Opteron 939s are pulled from the center of the manufacturing disk which means they have better thermally designed cores and give off less heat so they are better suited for laptops than a standard A64 San Diego.

laptops can sometimes be tricky to upgrade
be very cautious when working on it

its kind of like playing with fire
cross your fingers and toes when you boot it up afterwards

your game...i wouldnt try to upgrade a laptop..except the ram...but no way would i do the CPU....

very risky...good luck

why are you upgrading the processor? It's totally getting the job done for you, guarunteed. There's no reason a laptop needs that kind of power.
