All,
I really need your help... I just found out that I'm deploying and I want to get a laptop before I go. Problem is that I've never shopped for one before and have no idea what to really look for in a Laptop GPU. Pls help. I'm talking Best buy stuff as I don't have time to order one or build my own. Thanks so much guys!!! Oh, and by the way, if you live in Florida... Fear not baby!!! The US Navy is on its way with food and supplies!!! (Assuming Governer Jeb Bush asks for our help!! LOL)

What's it for? If it's for games, look for a video card other than integrated graphics. If it says "Intel 915" or anything of the like, avoid it. At least get an x300... or MX something from nvidia.

Look for 512mb ram, preferably 1gb.

2 batteries is definately better.

Find the optical drive that suits you. CD burner, dvd burner... whatever suits your fancy.

I like toshiba laptops.

Ryan,
Thanks! I'm absolutely looking for gaming! (Do computers do anything else???) And I have been looking at the Toshiba Satellites. They come with 128MB ATI cards (Mobile X700s ?). The only ones that I found with NVIDIA cards are like $2999!!! So that's pretty much out of the question... Thanks again for the reply

Here's the one I'm looking at...

You could also consider

or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834110155
with a memory upgrade.
Of course you might have to have these shipped to you and going into Best Buy would be a lot quicker for you. If you have a Circuit City nearby, check out their selection, I actually like them a lot better. And be weary of Best Buy's service plans. I've had nothing but trouble with them and heard a lot of bad things to boot. Circuit City, on the other hand, has been a lot more reliable for me.
Something along the lines of what you posted is really good, it seems just like what you'd need. You could consider a 15.4" screen to save battery life and increase portability, but beyond that you're good.
