Well it depends on the engine and your resolution/monitor, but yeah after about 4 or 8x I agree it's not really needed.

I prefer 8x personally.

Reviewers do run AA when they make review for 9800GX2 because there is no point in buying high-end video card and turn AA off, specially in non-demanding games like HL2 and COD4

My posts above say exactly why I don't turn AA up, even in HL2, COD4 etc.

Personally I can't stand anything less than 4x AA, 8xAA is preferable. In any case the 9800GX2 still slaughters the 3870x2 with or without AA.

I know most people don't turn AA up to 16x AA. But even at 4x AA, 9800GX2 was performing much better than HD3870 X2 according to the reviews from Anadtech.

At 4X AA, the RV670 GPU's drop in performance a lot more than G92 does.

if you have a compatible motherboard for that card and a good processor then itd be awesome. but 2 8800 GT is like 200$ cheaper than one 9800.
