Alright so it's been I don't know maybe 5 or 6 years since I last got a new computer and I just got fed up with not being able to play some of the newer video games. Here's my plan for a build, I want it to be a solid gaming rig with some upgrade potential for the future, and the budget needs to stay around $1300 at the most:
  • NZXT Hades- $69.99
  • Western Digital Caviar Black WD6402AAEX 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s- $69.99
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 470 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5- $259.99
  • CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W $129.99 w/ rebate
  • Patriot Viper II Sector 7 Edition 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600- $129.99
  • ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX- $199.99
  • Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz- $294.99
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM $99.99
  • COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus- $29.99
  • Total: $1284.90
Questions, comments? It's been a long time since I've been looking at computers, hoping that I got everything right.

Any input is appreciated

850W is a bit of overkill. It will work, but 500W-650W would be plenty.

Patriot is not a top name for RAM as they are hit or miss. Look at Crucial or G.Skill sets. I just got my hands on some Crucial Ballistix Tracers and they are sweet.

Thanks for the comment, I will definitely look into a different brand of ram, do you happen to know how much headroom I will need on the PSU if I want to upgrade at some point to gtx470 sli?

Looks like the GTX 470 needs a 550W:
Minimum 550W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A)

With that being the case, an 850 would be about right for SLI... if not more.

If I'm looking at like a 1000w supply for sli I might just skip on it for now and if I need to go sli before the next series of gpu's comes out i'll drop the extra hundred or two into it then. Time to revise the plan. I'll post it up here when I've got it.

Thanks again!

I've used Patriot memory before (DDR2) and never had a problem. The main reason I almost never recommend Patriot memory is because other brands tend to have better latencies for the price.

I switched the power supply for a 750W one and switched to g. skill memory. Do you guys have any reccomendations on a different 750W psu that is a little less expensive?
