Because the E8500 can do 4.3ghz~ on air.

E8*** series are pretty much guaranteed 4.00ghz. Except for the E8200, which I haven't really followed.

That's a bummer... I was told the Q6600 would be better for gaming... :(
What IS the Q6600 best at? Will future games run faster on a quad than a dual?

well games that support quad cores will obviously benefit from the extra cores. the q6600 is good at multi tasking and stuff like that.

Thanks all for ur advice
but i found this CPU

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550 (12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

Price: 2600 L.E.

Note: E8400 Price : 970 L.E.

>> for games big defferent ? i mean for this price more than duble !!

if you are on a budget then my advice is to get the E8400....99% of the time you won't be able to tell the difference in games...and since the dual is easier to clock it will be faster 99% of the time :)

meh i have my Q6600 at 3ghz atm and i haven't noticed any slow down on my games, although i suppose i haven't tried anything like Crysis and since i play Supreme Commander and Universe at War a lot, with the first one supporting quads if not the second to i guess that explains it...

So say i had the same system, 4gb ram, 4870 512mb, would i get a noticeable FPS boost if i had an E8400(lets say its at 3ghz) over a 3ghz Q6600?

You would notice a 5~10% performance increase in single threaded applications. Only due to the fact that the E8400 is 45nm.

But to be fair, if your going to overclock the Q6600. Then you should also overclock the E8400 as well. So the real dilemma will be whether to get a 45nm 4.00ghz+ dual core OR a 65nm 3.00ghz Quad core.
