Default Intel Core 2 Extreme

What is the difference between QX9770 and QX9650? Also the QX6700, QX6800, and QX6850? How high will they overclock on H2O and air?

Which one will you buy (X6800 or QX6***) if you had the money?

EDIT:

X6800 = $270 (Used)
QX6700 = $390 (New)
QX6800 = $400 (New)

the QX9770 has a higher TDP Output (by 6w exactly)

Both are Yorkfield, but 9770 has a higher multiplier, but thats really negated by the fact that both have unlocked multipliers however

Honestly I'd never consider one of these, because they'd all cap at the same place anyways

The only difference between the QX9770 and QX9650 is the clock speed, they are both 45nm Yorkfields. The QX6700, QX6800, and QX6850 are all 65nm kentsfields.

The x6800 is a dual core while all the others are quads.

The Yorkfields should clock higher since they are based off the newer 45nm architecture and give off less heat. They are also 5-10% faster clock for clock than the 65nm quads.

I wouldn't get any of the extreme edition quads. I would get a Q6600 or a Q9550 (once the price drops).

Also keep in mind nehalem will be released in September and will blow away any of these processors.

Edit: Vernong you beat me to it again.

If he's considering the QX6800 for $400, the Q9650 (without an unlocked) will be $500ish, and the Q9550 is around $329

The 2.66ghz Bloomfield(nehalem quad) will be ~$284 and is 20-50% faster than one of the Yorkfield quads clock for clock.

TDP Output? they both overclock the same speed?

wow september but are the bloomfield for mainstream or enthusiast? the only difference between a core 2 and a bloomfield build is the cpu and mobo do we need to use ddr2/ddr3?

need to go read the threads/topics in new technology forum

TDP output.. the power usage they use under load..

They pushed Bloomfield earlier to get ahead more..

It will require DDR3 + x58 board (which is very pricey) but with a $2,000 budget you could get it..

They'll both cap at the same speed with Water.. like 4.3ghz area with Water Cooling..

higher tdp voltage means more stable?

why ddr3 i dont see any good ddr3 memory and not worth it right now

why they make similar core 2 extreme chips to fool people?
