its most definitely a drivers issues or a cable issue.

do as that other person said.. lower your res to the lowest possible and then try switching monitors

Your monitor driver is probably out of date, that is the most likely reason, also check the video cards driver. If it's not one of those it either a defective card; or your monitor has died (which I highly doubt it would just randomly die).

does it work if you turn connect monitor, then re-boot the system?
i had a similar problem with my first ASUS 8800GT.
if possible, try another pcie slot as well, but first make sure it is properly seated in its current slot. this is quite likely the problem.
they can look like they are seated properly and really not be. it only has to be out a fraction of an inch...i mean like a TINY bit. and a lot of the time with pcie cards if you do not insert them exactly uniformly (front and back at same time) into the slot the back end (towards mobo) will seat, but the front (back of comp case) will not. has happened to me on several occasions after pulling/switching cards.
