If a 400W is a Minimum System Requirement for a Video Card... and I have 300W in my CPU

should I try it and see if it still works (I don't have money, but I do have a warranty which allows me to upgrade through the store).

CompUSA told me, "Why would you need a new Power Supply? I'm sure this baby will do just fine with that card."

We purchased a 2-year warranty to cover the possibility that the CPU will blow up.

The story:

We bought an HP Pavilion a1250n , and a BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC Video Card (needs 400W).

Is there a chance that the 300W will support the card?

sorry, 300W is for older cards like the FX series or the 6200 series. even the 6600GT needs at least 350W. 7800GT ( and oc too) would blow up for sure with a 300W. get at least 450W and should have at least 30A on the 12V rail/rails

if you still dont know what that means, look at the sticker of the power supply
it should say a number under or above 12V...if there are two 12V rails...then add those numbers together to see if it is greater than 30 or not.

Always go with the biggest PS you can, leaves more room for futire growth, and promoted harmony in the overall system performance. 300 Watt PS's shouldn't even be sold anymore, there very few setups that they will run effectively these days.

Can you show me a cheap Newegg power supply that I can get/works with the 7800 GT and Pavilion a1250n?

Well, I don't know what your budget is, but I will tell you that when attempting to cut costs in building a rig, the PS isn't the place to start. You really want to get the best you can afford, it will pay off in the end. Take it from someone who learned the hard way. Anyway, here are some examples of PS's I use frequently in builds:

Anyway, good luck.

I used a 200W power supply on my 9800pro which required a 300W one :D you can try, im sure it will work, it just wont be stable. Crash within 3d games most likely

Fortron 400W power supply dual +12V 40 dollars cant beat the price

Same thing but 450W for 10 dollars more :D

These are great power supplies for the price. Next time, build your own PC instead of buying a pre built ;)
