ill take that as words of wisdom. Sounds good to me. Tks

Is an EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED overkill for this build? This board is really growing on me, and im starting to justify the price. Any other suggestions for a great MOBO that will bring out the full potential of the 920?

A i7 920 would be faster than a Phenom II@ 4.0GHz at most apps..

The classified is overkill unless you are are a serious overclocker.

Look at the Asus, biostar and evga boards in the $200 to $250 range.

EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58, eh, eh? This one is pretty decent, any thoughts otherwise?

Whether it's faster depends on the programs.
The biggest advantage of i7's is multithreading. Video editing, and a lot of things which involve a bar going across the screen will be faster with the i7 (though it's still program dependant).

As a gaming chip, the Phenom II 955 is usually about at the same level.

Which is the better one to get?
Depends what you do and how much you're prepared to spend.

920 is the only i7 worth buying.

I would guesstimate a 4.0ghz X4 to win about 16 of the 28 of those tomshardware tests. But if all you did was encode video with Adobe Premiere CS4 and Winrar files then the i7 would be faster. But the X4 would pwn in games. So depends on what your doing but I'm thinking if we test every app in the world the X4 would probably win.

It just annoys me because we all know that the chip wasnt meant to compete with the I7...but whatever.
