installed new motherboard in my case, the i/o shield was a pain but i finally got it to fit but i had to put a lot of pressure on the motherboard to line it up correctly with the standoffs to position correctly with the shield, but it fits now and even pushes out a little bit, is the pressure going to be bad for the motherboard?

With the heating up and cooling down you could be up for a mobo failure. Might not be soon but the pressure on the mobo isn't advised.

Operating a system without I/O shields will not affect the functionality of the system but will leave small visible gaps on the back of the system

yes, i know... i dont really care about how it looks back there anyhow...thanks

No you do not need the shield, simply make sure nothing falls into the gaps that are left. a bigger thing that i would worry about is that mayb e it doesnt fit because you mounted the motherboard wrong. Check to see if you did it correctly. if so, than just keep the shield off.
