suggestions welcome. trying not to go over $750

you can't use an amd cpu with an intel mobo, and if you were to use that asus mobo, it would need ddr3 ram not ddr2.

that seems a bit much for just an htpc though.
your friend should be fine with this mobo

the psu is also more than the rig would require.

Listen to Muffin Man's post, it's very good.
Also, if you want a dedicated graphics card. (785G is good... BUT having a dedicated card would be better if you get a GT 220 or a GT 240 which are both good HTPC choices as they have low profile versions and perform very well, and I believe there are fanless versions of both.)
