how to use .iso files

hey all. a friend of mine has given downloading games (naughty i know!) a try and has downloaded a .iso file. To use this do u just burn that onto a blank cd and it works just like the original cd when a nocd crack has been put in or does it need some form of file converting to work or watever.
In general how do u use it once uve downloaded it?

Alcohol %120 is'nt actually an illegal program, its just most people use it to do illegal things.

dont get me wrong im fully aware that its illegal but it's still interesting stuff to know and because he's a mate of mine i was compelled to at least attempt to help him but i do completely understand the reaction.
