Hey, I have always used generic and low-end psu's and it has never effected the performance of my machine.

I have a 3700+ and a 7800gt and my aspire 500watt $39 psu runs the system great.

However many people have been talking to my about the importance of a good psu.

How important is having a brand name psu?

If I bought a good $100-$200 brand name psu, would I notice a performance upgrade?

You would notice more stable voltages, and better stability when overclocking. If you are looking for a very good PSU and are on a budget, check out the one for sale in my sig. Follow the link, it has more information and a review.

people tend to buy good brand name PSU's because they arent known for dying or frying parts of your computer. I'd rather buy a good named PSU than buy a cheap one that could take out 500$ worth of parts.

The power supply in a computer is the most important part.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. It is to a computer what a healthy Heart is to us.

Hmm... I dont overclock, and I havnt had any problem with my cheap aspire, so I see no nead to upgrade. Maybe on my next build I'll buy a nice one.
