how does this setup look for gaming?

The stripped down versions of the DS3R, such as the S3L and DS3L, should be able to have similar overclockability.

The Ultra Durable, in my opinion, isn't necessary. I guess it's just nice to have. It gives the motherboard solid capacitors, 6-phase power, and other new features, I'm not sure of.

These boards should be similar with the original DS3 and S3. The DS3R is "ultra durable" as B1 stated which means the capacitors are all solid and the cores are fertile. If it resembles the original Ds3 and S3 then that means the DS3R is not only made with higher quality materials but will get slightly better temperatures. The S3L is a really really good looking cheap board though

EDIT: the DS3L is ultra durable but the S3L is not. Also the Ds3R runs on phase 6 power which in my guess is what makes these boards overclock so **** well with such a low voltage.

Or for about $10 more, he can get the Ultra Durable feature, with the DS3L. Just no RAID support, and 4 less SATA ports. Not needed though.
