Samsung has made, and is producing a flash drive that holds 30 gigs. I think that’s a pretty good step in the right direction. In terms of the speed of this "holographic" drive, I would have to agree that it is very slow, to slow in fact. If you want speed, I would suggest combining "holo" drives with ram drives. For long term storage the "holo" drive holds the information then sends it to the ram drive for fast readability. Just my idea.
