Hi !

I'm in the process of beginning my first build and
I need some help... Not certain on some parts but
for now I choose this:

ASUS P7P55D Motherboard
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz CPU
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W PSU

I'm going to use 8G of RAM but I don't know what to
choose... Also, the MB is ATI compatible but which GPU
card ???

I do a bit of gaming but my first concern is photo edition...

Any input is welcome...

Thanks !!!

Philippe

Welcome!

First off for RAM I would recommend Corsair Dominator, Mushkin, G.skill Ripjaws, Crucial Ballistix. They're all good IMO.

But a couple of questions:
1) What games are you planning on playing?
2) Are you sure you need 8gb of RAM? I don't know much about photo editing but 4gb could be enough. If you save money on the RAM you can buy a better GPU.
3) What is your budget? The absolute maximum you are willing to spend please...

You are in Canada, so you will be using NCIX and/or NewEgg.ca.

I will ask one of the same questions: What is your budget? What is your target amount, and what is your absolute maximum that you cannot go over?

8GB of RAM is no big deal anymore. Photo editing and rendering can use it instead of your hard drive. As fas as memory brands I recommend G.Skill almost exclusively. I use it and have for quite a while. Their Ripjaws series are the bomb.

Which version of the ASUS P7P55D are you looking at? There are several different ones... Deluxe, -E, -E LX, EVO, -E Deluxe, -E Pro, and just plain P7P55D.

Your choice of CPU and PSU are rock solid, BTW. A quad will serve you well both in photo editing and gaming. The motherboard may support ATI CrossfireX, but it can also run Nvidia cards but not in SLI.

Ok, I like COD Modern Warfare 1&2 games
and first shooter alike games... Money is not
a problem, but I just don't want to go overkill...

The MB is the plain Asus P7P55D... I'm not sure
if I will overclock but maybe... I know nothing about
that for now. I want something that is reliable and safe.
Maybe it's not the right choice ???

One of my first concern is the quality of the parts
and the compatibility.

Thanks guys !!

Philippe

Well, if he wanted the best one he could get, he'd probably get the i7-980, and crossfire 5970's if it's possible. :p And a 2TB, high RPM SATA drive, and 6 of those 4GB sticks. That is if he wants the best he could possibly get. :p
