I would suggest either one of these, for the motherboard:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=23315
Gigabyte GA-M57SLi-S4 Socket AM2 Motherboard - Aria Technology
ASUS M2N-E nF570 Socket AM2 Motherboard - Aria Technology

Hard drive:
500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 16MB - Aria Technology

RAM:
Patriot 2GB PC2-6400 C4 Extreme Performance (2x1GB) - Aria Technology

GFX:
Asus GeForce 8800GTS 320MB PCI-E - Aria Technology
...You don't need the 640MB version, as it's been proven, not significantly better than the 320MB version.

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (AM2) - Aria Technology
or
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.60GHz (AM2) - Aria Technology
..and just overclock to 3.2GHz

PSU:
Corsair 520W HX V2 Series Modular PSU - Aria Technology
Hiper 580W TRUE POWER PSU - Aria Technology

ACtaly the 640mb does alot better for higher resolutions in the 1680x1050 and up range. As for the board, i still say DFI Lanparty for AM2.

I guess so. But that would depend on what kind of monitor he's playing on. If he can wait a couple, he can get the 8800GT, which seems to be a winner.

It's not so much the matter of size of the monitor, but more importantly, the native resolution it supports. Do you happen to know the model number as well?

I couldn't find much information on that model. Not even on Samsung's website. Does the instruction booklet, happen to mention it's native resolution?

Thank you Chris, for finding the monitor info. It's probably only available in the UK, that's why I couldn't find more info on it.

I looked up it's specs, and it says it has 1,049,088 pixels. Which means, it has a resolution of 1366 x 768 (equals 1,049,088 pixels).

So no, he would not need the 640mb version of the 8800GTS. The 320mb version would kill games in that resolution. Or the 2900Pro.
