Is there a way to make them a different color w/o having to buy new cables?

Ive seen people wrap their cables in this special thing

That an IDE cable, which you don't need, because your hard drive and optical drive, require an SATA cable.

EDIT: Should i just buy SATA cables? How many will i need?

Probably so. You would just need to buy two blue SATA cables. One for your hard drive, and one for your optical drive.
