Well I just got about NZ$1500 to spend on my pc and I want to get a new Graphics card, and Im also getting a Viewsonic VX2433WM 24" screen so I would like to play games on relatively high settings at 1920x1080. After getting the screen I will have about NZ$800 which is around US$420. My current rig Is;

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R motherboard
4GB DDR2 1066Mhz RAM
1TB RAID0 HDD (2x500gb)
Coolermaster CM690 case
Q6600 (Im thinking of replacing this with a E8500, would It be worth It?)

I wouldnt spend the money on an e8500 if u already have a q6600.

Depending if u feel like spending all of the money, a gtx285 is just below $400 US. Top of the line single gpu card. For more price/performance tho, id recommend a gtx280 or gtx260 core16(55nm).

I'd say go for the GTX 285. You will see an increase in gaming performance if you switch to the E8500, especially when overclocked. If you find that you don't really need a quad for multi tasking, and gaming is your main focus, then going to an E8500 would be worth it. Just sell the Q6600 and use the money towards that.

Get the new video card & monitor and stand pat on that cpu....that cpu is great for gaming.

Thanks, I still havn't decided wether or not to spend the whole budget, but It is currently between the gtx285 and the 4870x2, In my country I can actually get a gtx285 for cheaper than a gtx280. I will also see if I can find any second hand cards.

I think the 285 is a better buy, especially if you can get one cheaper than a 280. The 4870X2 aren't worth the extra money. They consume a lot more power and throw off more heat.
