Default Help with my new Build

I started researching for this build around the beginning of summer... been through a lot of evolutions...

Most Recent version:

CPU: Intel C2D E8500
GPU: 1GB HD 4870
Motherboard: Biostar I45
RAM: 4GB OCZ Reaper 1066
Hard Drive: Western Digital 7200RPM 32 MB Cache 640GB
PSU: Corsair 650W
Case: Antec 1200

BUT, this was before the whole Intel i7 processor/mobo/RAM stuff came out, so in order to be at least justifiably future-proof, I'm pretty sure I need to change to something like this:

memory - G.SKILL 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives
PSU - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies
case Antec Twelve Hundred ATX 12 Drive Bays 2xUSB 2.0 eSATA Audio Mid Tower Case: Electronics
Motherboard - MSI X58 Platinum LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
CPU - Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
2x Case Fans - APEVIA CF12SL-UBL 120mm Blue LED Case Fan - Case Fans
GPU - SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
CPU Cooler - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

This will be mostly for gaming, but I figure the E8500 won't really hold up enough in comparison with the i7 920, especially in terms of being future-proof - Which means I need to get a new mobo and RAM for compatibility with the new CPU. This is worth it, right?

And, OCing the i7 920 to 3.2-3.4 ghz shouldn't be too difficult, right? Cooling it with a decent aftermarket + overall good airflow should be fine, right?

Ap4 is the only one on the forums who currently has the Core i7. He was able to hit 4.1ghz on stock cooling.

There are reasons I don't buy Intel. Besides Deneb should be able to do 3.7~3.8ghz on air as well.

OMG this sounds like I m being converted. I love you maroon but that comment was Epic.

I have heard bad things about the MSI Platinum + Eclipse, crap voltage settings, instability, incomplete BIOS, and one review said the eclipse mosfets exploded while trying to overclock.

As far as I know the AF7 doesn't work with Core i7 (yet)

I do not accept help requests and/or deleted threads/complaints by PM, Profile or IM/Email. Just ask on the forums! Also, I do have Lockerz invites if you want them, feel free to PM me your email if you want one :0

If I help you, or you just like what I said, rep me by clicking the

.. But things don't go according to plan! My Actual Rig, 2009:
