Hard Drive Seek time Question

i just bought a WD Raptor SATA 10,000 RPM 16 meg cache with 4.6 ms seek time which claims to be worlds fastest dont know tho.

anyway when i used Hard Drive Tach it said that my seek time was 8.1ms. so i ran it on my other hard drive with has a 8.6 ms seek time and it says 14.1 ms when i run hd tach.

just curious why this is.

Software programs are never 100% accurate. Other than that, I would say that you will never get Exactly Manufacuring Specs...

Like internet and SATA Speeds... Your never get whats advertised. They just give max/best Speed possible.

On a side note, I think the worlds fastest commercial hard drives are SCSI Cheetahs

Yeah i figured that STE just kinda disapointing ya know. i can see being a little off but in each case its almost double. and for jumping bean i ment and it ment worlds fastest SATA. that was it says on the box anyways. dont get me wrong its the best drive ive used so far for what 2 hours now lol. my other one craped out on me. i just expected it to be kinda close.
