Default GTX 260 vs 280 - Is it the cost?

Every thread seems to recommend the 260 core 216, then OC to match the 280. Is there anything that would put the 280 over the OC'd 260? Can you OC the 280? If money wasn't the difference (hah, I wish) would the 280 be the better choice still?

The 4870 X2 would be the better choice. ;P

The GTX280 would OC, I don't know why you would, though.

Yes you can overclock a 280 and it will outperform a core 216. The reason the core 216 is so popular though is its bang for the buck. When you can overclock a $250 card for free and get the performance of a $400+ card its just hard to pass up.
