Default Graphics Performance

Is the graphical performance in a game (How good it looks and how smoothly it runs) judged by the video card or does the rest of the hardware (Processor, RAM) also play a part in it? Will the game recommend a higher graphical setting if you have a better processor or more RAM? Or is it the video card that decides all that? I know the video card is the main thing.

The video card plays more of a role in games than the rest of the equipment. But the CPU and RAM do count as well as the HDD speed for loading times in games.

the other components do help, eg, (if it was possible) if you had two sli 7800Gtx running with a P1, you would not get v. good performance, lol

its mostly the video card and some ram, then the cpu is just there to power the machine
