Graphics Card question

The Radeon performs better in the majority of games however the difference between the cards varies depending on the game. I should have made my previous post clearer.

Well, that whole benchmarking system they have there is a great idea if prices never changed.

For example, look at this page: AnandTech: MultiGPU Update: Finding the True Halo with 4-way

According to performance vs cost, the 9800GTX+ is king. And they would recommend a GTX 260 192 core version over the 216...

But when you get down to the raw performance, in that benchmark, the GTX 260 comes out in front.

Not to mention a lot of the benchmarks are a bit screwy...a 4870 512mb beating out a GTX 285 at 2560x1600?

But it really comes down to what someone feels more comfortable with, especially when the costs are similar.

Thanks that helps a lot.

Oh ok thanks.

Lol I'm getting so confused. So the Radeon is wayyy faster than the gtx?
In performance, the radeon is better?

and when the 4870 beats the core 216 it is usually by 1-2FPS so it is not a major deal. also it really depends on what site you look at, some sites might say that the core 216 is better or some might say the core 216 is a piece of junk. i think it is safe to say that they both perform almost identical.

To the 4870 1gb.

Either way, the OP has made his decision, and it's not a bad one.

Factoring in 1680x1050 and 1900x11200 since they are mainstream resolutions the HD 4870 1gb wins in the majority of cases. Here are the numbers if you don't believe me.

1680x1050

Age of Conan
4870 1 gig=39.5fps
260 core 216=31.9fps

COD 5
4870 1 gig=61fps
260 core 216=59.9fps

Crysis
4870 1gig=33.3fps
260 core 216=31.1fps

Fallout 3
4870 1gig=55.5fps
260 core 216=42.9fps

Far Cry 2
4870 1 gig=37.8fps
260 core 216=33.4fps

L4D
4870 1gig=87.4fps
260 core 216=70.3fps

1900x1200

Age of Conan
4870 1 gig= 35.9 fps
260 core 216= 30.2 fps

COD 5
4870 1 gig= 50.2 fps
260 core 216= 59.3 fps

Crysis
4870 1gig= 27.9 fps
260 core 216= 27 fps

Fallout 3
4870 1gig 52.1 fps
260 core 216 40.5 fps

Far Cry 2
4870 1 gig= 35.5 fps
260 core 216= 31.7 fps

L4D
4870 1gig= 74 fps
260 core 216= 64.5 fps

They show they HD 4870 1gb winning in 11 of the 12 tests (6 games x2 resolutions) as I said earlier.
