Graphic Card Dilemma

What do you guys think is better for gaming? 2 Geforce 8800 Ultra's running in Sli, or 2 9800 GTX blackedition by XFX in sli? tigerdirect has a sweet deal for a 8800 ultra and a 1000w psu, and i am trying to save money, cuz this is for a new build.

8800 Ultra's are old and way over priced. You can get way better cards now compared to them.

Memory doesn't mean much. There are 8500 GT's with 1 Gig of GDDR2. Does that mean they out perform 4870's with 512MB of GDDR5?

Its the Cores that matter not the ram as much. Which is why the GTX 280 with 1GB GDDR3 is still able to outperform a single 4870 with 1GB of GDDR5.

Graphics Cards are like CPU's. Older graphics cards have older and slower cores. While the 9800 GTX+, 4850, 4830, 4870, GTX 260, and etc. Those cards are able to handle more graphic intensive gaming due to the improvements made to the GPU cores over time.

Actually check out newegg. Theres an Asus 4870 that no one really liked because of it's loud fan. So now they have it for like 219 after a rebate, imo it's a good card and for the price you cant really compare or complain.

the 8800 g90 core gpus were never really that grat in terms of scaling for sli, however the g92 series (9800gtx+) is much better and will easily wipe the floor with sli ultras.

either 9800GTX+s (Newegg.com - XFX PVT98WYDFH GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards) in SLI or hd 4850s (Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H485QS512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported IceQ4 Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards) in CF would carve up 8800 Ultra (and be cheaper) because of the improved multi-gpu core parallelism introduced in the shrunk chips (ie RV770 and G92)
