You need need more power than you think with newer games at 1920x1080

Dont go too cheap of card or you will be sorry.

Yeah, I hear you on that one... Like I said he doesn't need to play at max res. Just something to fill out his new monitor, will look decent, and with good fps...

Thanks everyone for your help.. I ended up going with a HD4770 512 Mb. Should be no problems playing MW2 at a res of 1280x1024 or a little above from what I've read....

Good card, but I really think you can have balanced the GPU and the monitor's price to get something that could have maxed out at the monitor's resolution a bit better.
