ah that changes everything then

Yeah it looks like ATI are winning this round...If your budget for a GPU is 400something then I suggest getting 2 x 4850s along with a crossfire board like the DFI dark X38, or P5E.

mm. it might behoove you to get a crossfire board, perhaps a x38, a q6600 no doubt, some good ram, and 2 4850's, or a 4870.

I found the P5E mobo but i cant find any boards that are x38 that say theyre Crossfire supported... Am i missing something?

All x38 boards are crossfire. It's a feature of the chipset

Do you have a reccomendation on one? If i went with the P5E id just get the nicest one but its cheaper. The x38's go up to $250. I dont want the cheapest one but i dont want that pricey of one either.

I would go with this one:
Newegg.com - ASUS P5E Deluxe LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

It's the X48 revision of the P5E.

X48 is the same as X38, they are just speed binned so they overclock a bit better I have the X38 P5E myself and it's a beautiful board.....looks great and performs well, had my E6750 up to 525fsb so far.

if you do decide to go with an nvidia board I might be getting rid of a 9800gx2 ssc edition... had for 2 weeks and I am going to be selling soon for $400. just saying if u dont go crossfire
