The GTX 260 with 216 core is probably the best performer. However, the Maximus 2 Formula is a Crossfire board, so I would go with the HD 4870 1gb, that way you can CF in the future.

Yes, buy the 4870, because it's also cheaper, and just as good. Youdon't really need 8GBs of RAM.

or neither, just get a p45 chipset, its better for overclocking. also it is debatable whether a core 216 is better than a 4870, i still like a 4870 for AA purposes where it performs better. also unless your gaming a res like 1920x1200 the 1gb on the 4870 wont be needed.

Well the biostar P45 board holds the world fsb record. And its a great board all round - so there is some truth to barons comment.

Also Stalin, im pretty sure you can 3 way SLI 9800GTs, i think that is the only difference from the 8800GT, that they added 3 way support. But it still isnt worth it.

The 4870 1GB and the 260 core 216 basically perform exactly the same overall. Just look at benchmarks and find the one that best suits the games you play.

i just looked it up and it only has 1 sli bridge, but ya even it it was 3way it wouldnt be worth it.

and a biostar i45 is better at overclocking then a x48... the only thing the x48 really has on it is the 16x crossfire but unless ur crossfiring 4870 x2's it wont matter
