i like macdawg's build.

i strongly recommend you go for the 450watt fsp fortron he mentioned for $12 more.

i would probably save the $75 for the sound card and use the integrated stuff.. and put the $75 into a faster CPU...

oh and if you don't mind mail-in-rebates, you can get nicer OCZ ram for cheaper! but you gotta pay more upfront then get like a $50 mail in rebate..

how's this one looking? I took your guys' advice and rebuilt my old plan to fit some of the above suggested hardware. I think this looks a lot better but i still would like some advice on it. Thanks.

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 --- Socket 939 ULi M1695 ATX AMD = 67.00

AMD Atholon 3000+ --- 1.8GHz, 512KB, 1GHz, Socket 939 =110.00

COOLER MASTER Centurion --- Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower = 55.00

ENERMAX Whisper II --- FMA(24P) ATX12V 535W 90V~135V or 90V~265V UL, cUL, TUV, CB = 88.50

Kingston ValueRAM 2GB PC3200 DDR DIMM Memory Kit --- 2GB PC3200 DDR DIMM (2x 1GB) = 155.00

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB Hard Drive --- Serial ATA II, 7,200RPM, 16MB = 90.00

NEC --- IDE/ATAPI 16X DVD±R DVD 48X CD/RW Burner = 37.50

Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor --- 19", 1440x900, 8ms, PC = 221.00

eVGA 256-A8-N340-TX Geforce 6600 256 MB --- 256MB, AGP 8X, DVI, 2D/3D w/ TV-Out = 105.00

I would also spend roughly $100 on a keyboard/mouse and XP/Home Edition

$710.00 w/out monitor
$930.00 w/ monitor

This is a good price for me but i would still like to go a little lower but still be willing to go alittle higher as well if there'd be decent improvement in performance

*is this a good case and would i be able to overclock very well with the stuff i have here?

thats a huge downgrade from macdawg's build. (mainly concerning video card..)

take off the soundcard from his build, and the price is pretty much the same.

You could save $5-10 with Corsair value RAM, its as good if not better.

That Power supply is a little too much for your build, you'd have more than enough power from the FSP 450 watt PSU and its $15 less.

Id prefer a motherboard with Nforce4 chipset, but you seem set on that motherboard, and where the big thing is, is the video card, if you want to have good graphics and smooth gameplay on PC games I strongly suggest the 7600gt. Example, the 9800pro is a 3 year old video card that probably has as much if not more power than the 7300 from what I can tell, not good for modern games, but the 7600gt, if you go back 12-15 months you'd have to spend $500 to get that kind of power.

ok i know this is a noobish question but you CAN plug in a monitor directly into your video card right? because that'd help me out a ton. cuz then i wouldn't have to rely on getting a motherboard with a VGA in it.

my main question is will the PSU (Antec SmartPower 2.0 500 Watt ATX 12V v2.0 PSU PCIE Ready, 4 ATA's, Model SP500) i'm looking at be enough for this. i know it says 450W but still. i'd rather be safe.

Compatibility
Slot/Port Type: PCI-Express x16
System Type: PC
*********Minimum Power Supply Required: 450 W*********
Slot Space Required: 1
Picture Quality
Resolution: 2048 x 1536
Color Depth at Maximum Resolution: 16.7 Million Colors + 8-Bit Grayscale Mask (32-bit)
Refresh Rate at Max Resolution: 85 Hz

thanks
