I'm looking into a laptop to replace my current desktop PC, and I was wondering if now is a good time to buy, or if there is some technology upgrade coming in the near future I should wait for.

I just don't want to buy a laptop now and find out a month later that there are quad-processors in notebooks, or something like that.

Depends on your budget. What are you going to use the laptop for? What's your price range?? Give more info.

theres really never a good time to buy laptops, most ddr setups are way cheaper than ddr2 right now...
but thats about it
you want a core2duo mobile right now, circuitcity has a really nice viao C2D really small laptop its awsome :) $2400, or $2100 unprotected, i have no clue what they are tryin to say...

Right now I'm looking at systems $2000-$2500, but if I decided to blow my account, I could look at stuff $3000+. I'd like it to become my primary PC, so I'd like it to be capable of everything, including most high-end gaming with good quality. Is that being unrealistic for my price range? The best deals I've found in terms of value and power are with Gateway and Dell. Here is a gateway notebook I built on the web site:

Would this be strong enough to last a while? Or would I need to increase my price range?

I don't like dell or gateway, but for laptops I hear they're better.

I would say yes, better than my desktop. Gamming laptops can get hot but other than that as long as you're willing to dish out cash most people are happy with them. You may want an external hardrive for storage, but other than that I have no suggestions.
