Default Good new processor for this machine?

CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+ (1.8GHz, Winchester core)
CPU Cooling: Stock heatsink and fan
Motherboard: MSI K8T Neo2-F (revison 1.0)
RAM: 2x512 (1GB) Corsair XMS PC3200 (DDR400)
Graphics: eVGA nVidia GeForce 6800GS 256MB AGP (unlocked 4 pipelines)
Sound: Creative Audigy 2 Value
Hard Drive: Maxtor 200GB SATA + Seagate 250GB SATA
Power Supply: Some 450W, don't remember

Do you guys think THIS processor would be a good CPU for my box? I've thought for some time that my CPU was the "bottleneck" in my system for high-end gaming, and I liked this processor. Any thoughts?

OR, spend another $35 dollars, pick up a Opteron 150 and OC it like 400Mhz and you'll have an effective replacement for an FX-57.

I thought Opteron's were good for servers and such, how do they fair against "normal" desktop CPUs?

Yeah, If you get an Opteron 165 for around 330 bucks, you can most likely OC it to at least 2.5 ghz. Now that would be a kick*** CPU.
